The government has announced plans to establish new Community Day Schools in Nima and Kasoa under the Secondary Education Transformation for Access, Relevance and Results (STARR-J) Project.

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the initiative is part of efforts to expand access to quality secondary education and address infrastructure gaps in the sector.

Addressing the press at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, Mr. Iddrisu noted that President John Dramani Mahama has expressed the need to encourage the establishment of more Community Day Schools, following the model of the one at Kwabenya.

“It is the view of President Mahama that we should encourage the establishment of Community Day Schools in the category of what is in Kwabenya. We will build one of that in Nima and one in Kasoa as part of the STARR-J Project,” he stated.

He added that the STARR-J Project will also support inclusive education, with Ho in the Volta Region set to receive a new Special Needs Education facility.

According to him, the facility will provide additional support for learners with disabilities in the area and improve access to specialised education services.

“I am also happy to note that under the STARR-J Project, Ho in the Volta Region will benefit from a new Special Needs Education facility to support learners with disability in that area,” he said.

The STARR-J Project is expected to improve secondary education infrastructure, increase access, and enhance the relevance of education delivery across senior high schools, senior high technical schools and TVET institutions in Ghana.
