The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has said ahead of the campaign tour of the flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the Savannah Region, that the flagbearer will always stand with the people of Gonjaland.

Mr. Ahiagbah recounted how Dr. Bawumia supported President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to create the Savannah Region, a promise he said his opponent, former President John Dramani Mahama, could not achieve.

In a post on his X handle, Mr Ahiagbah said “Bawumia will always stand with Gonjaland. He firmly supported H.E. Akufo-Addo in creating the Savannah Region, a promise that H.E. Mahama failed to fulfill during his presidency. Vote Bawumia to do more for Gonjaland.”

Bawumia has promised the Yegbonwura, the overlord of Gonja, that if elected on January 7th, 2025, he will establish a satellite university campus in the Savannah Region, with a long-term goal of creating a full-fledged university for the region. Dr. Bawumia on Monday, May 13 concluded his tour of the North East Region with cutting a sod for the construction of a sports complex at Gambaga.

The President of the North East Regional House of Chiefs, Ndugna Nayiri Naa Bohugu Abdulai Sheriga, on behalf of the House, commended Dr. Bawumia’s decency in the ongoing political campaign ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a speech delivered on his behalf Ndugna Nayiri Naa Bohugu Abdulai Sheriga, who is also the Overlord of Mamprugu, said Dr. Bawumia has conducted himself well and should continue like that in the campaign.

“I have observed so far the civility and admirable nature with which you conduct your campaign and I will urge you to continue in the same manner,” said the Nayiri.

The Nayiri also commended Dr. Bawumia for his remarkable work as Vice President and assured him of the region’s support in his bid to become President of Ghana.

“As we prepare for the election this year, the least we can do for you as the son of the soil is to honour you with the opportunity to serve at the highest echelon of state power. We shall not turn our back on you, especially having demonstrated competence, loyalty, resilience and more importantly, regard for the institution of Chieftaincy.

“I am deeply persuaded that you have it in you to carry out the task ahead. You can rise to the challenge and uphold the good name of Ghana and make her greater and stronger.”
