Justice Lydia Osei Marfo has ordered jurors in the Kasoa Ritual killing case to forfeit their sitting allowances for Monday following the absence of one of their members.
The court was expected to conclude summing up the murder ritual where two teenagers are on trial for allegedly killing an 11-year-old boy in 2021.
The case which is in its final stages has suffered several adjournments as a result of a four-month strike by jurors across the country.
The strike has since been called off, paving the way for the case to continue.
The case was thus scheduled for hearing on Monday, October 12, 2024, for summing up, jury deliberations and verdict.
But one of the seven jurors was conspicuously absent. Justice Lydia Osei Marfo who appeared enranged by this, questioned the foreman on the absence of the juror.
The foreman clarified that the said juror was out of the jurisdiction of the court since the legal vacation.
The court initially fined the absentee juror 100 penalty units representing GHc 1200. But rescinded this decision after a lawyer for one of the Kasoa Boys urged the judge to do so.
The jurors opted to rather forfeit their allowance for the day. The judge thus ordered for the sitting allowances of the other six jurors to be forfeited in place of the fine.
The case has been adjourned to October 24, 2024.
