EC declares NPP’s Frank Asiedu Bekoe as MP-elect for Suhum after recount

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully retained the Suhum parliamentary seat following a recount conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

After a thorough examination of the pink sheets, the EC announced Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the NPP candidate, as the elected Member of Parliament for Suhum.

Frank Asiedu Bekoe received 16,855 votes, whereas the candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prince Kwadwo Addo Tabiri garnered 15, 259 votes, at the Ghana Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

Kwadjo Asante, running as an independent candidate, garnered a total of 14,860 votes. In contrast, fellow independent candidate Emmanuel Dede Wiafe received only 159 votes.

In response, the NDC has dismissed the results, labelling the recollation as “unlawful”.

In an interview with Channel One News’ Fred Duhoe, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress Rashid Tanko Computer, said, “It’s illegal, we reject it, we’re not going to accept what has happened here. NDC government won’t respect recollated results.”

The aggregated results were obtained from six polling centres within the Suhum constituency. Representatives of the independent candidate, Kwadjo Asante, also contested the results, claiming that over 2,000 individuals were disenfranchised due to the absence of pink sheets from various parties, including the Electoral Commission.

The NPP insisted that the re-collation for Nsawam-Adoagyiri be done on Thursday, while the NDC is calling for a postponement to December 13.

So far the NPP has retained Akwatia and Fanteakwa North seats.
