SLTF updates portal to allow under-18 students to apply for No-Fees-Stress

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has rolled out a major update to its No-Fees-Stress application portal, enabling students under the age of 18 to apply for loans for the first time.

Previously, students below 18 were unable to complete applications due to legal restrictions on opening bank accounts—a key requirement for processing loan disbursements in Ghana.

This limitation had excluded many eligible applicants from accessing financial support for tertiary education. With the new update, the SLTF has reconfigured the system to bypass the bank account requirement for underage applicants.

Now, applicants in this category can select “No” under the bank account option and instead provide the names of their parents or guardians to proceed with the loan application.

Chief Executive Officer of the SLTF, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, said the update is part of broader efforts to make tertiary education more accessible.

“We are working to facilitate greater access to financial support for all tertiary students to ensure they can pursue their academic dreams without the burden of fees,” Dr. Shiraz stated.

The SLTF is encouraging all under-18 students to revisit the No-Fees-Stress portal and take advantage of the improved application process.
