The Minister for the Interior has imposed a curfew on Bole Township and its surrounding areas in the Savannah Region, effective Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The restriction, which will be enforced daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., follows security threats linked to ongoing chieftaincy disputes in the area.
The directive, issued on the advice of the National Security Council and backed by Executive Instrument, follows violent clashes in Gbiniyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, where land disputes have sparked deadly confrontations.
At least six people have been killed, and 18 others injured, in a series of attacks that have displaced families and destroyed property.
In response to the humanitarian crisis, the Ghana Red Cross Society has established a temporary shelter at the Sawla District Police Headquarters to accommodate women and children fleeing Gbiniyiri and nearby communities.
As part of the enforcement measures, the government has placed a total ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the township and its environs. The Interior Ministry cautioned that anyone found flouting this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
The curfew is intended to curb escalating tensions and restore calm. Authorities stressed that while the measure is temporary, it is necessary to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, residents of Bole have been directed to comply with new restrictions on movement. “No pair rides should be seen on motorbikes throughout the day,” the Interior Ministry stated, warning that violations will be met with strict security action.
The Ministry has also banned the wearing of war regalia, describing it as a measure to reduce provocation and prevent further escalation among rival factions.
The government has appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of Bole to remain calm and resolve grievances through dialogue rather than violence.
It further urged community leaders to channel their influence toward fostering peace and stability during this period of heightened security.
