“Show effort in galamsey fight and we’ll help” – Miracles to gov’t

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the government to step up its fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

He accused the administration of President John Dramani Mahama of adopting a laissez-faire approach to the menace, contrary to the commitments made while in opposition.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, September 22, 2025, Mr. Aboagye stressed that illegal miners remain active despite the government’s claims.

“As at 11:00 am this morning, our drones captured galamseyers in the Pra River mining. I have tagged the minister for government communication in the video so that he will see the damage in the Pra River,” he said.

He urged the government to show a stronger commitment, arguing that visible action would inspire citizens and stakeholders to rally behind the fight to protect water bodies, forests, and farmlands.

“All we are asking is for us to at least see the government make an effort, so we can all join in the fight. But if the government is still denying the presence of even the menace, then we are in trouble,” he warned.

Mr. Aboagye further emphasised that the fight against galamsey should transcend partisan politics.

“This for me, is even beyond NPP and NDC,” he concluded.
