Pay our salary arrears or we will protest again – unpaid teachers warn govt

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that road construction activities will be significantly intensified in 2026 as the government works to deliver on President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to improve Ghana’s road network.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mr Agbodza said the President has consistently reaffirmed his commitment to road infrastructure development and has supported this with allocations in the national budget.

“The President has committed to Ghanaians to improving roads across the country. You have heard him whenever he goes to meet stakeholders, talking about the networks to be improved,” he said.

He explained that resources have already been committed to the sector, placing responsibility on the Ministry to ensure effective execution of the projects.

“So, the President has committed resources for these roads to be improved. He made provisions in the budget for the Finance Minister to read. My job is to make sure that the vision of the President comes to pass,” Mr Agbodza stated.

The Minister noted that road works would intensify both this year and in 2026 as the government moves to reduce the country’s road infrastructure deficit.

“I agree with you, this year and next year, we would have to see a lot of work being done,” he added.

He further disclosed that most of the planned road projects have already been awarded, with the Ministry now shifting attention to supervision and quality assurance.

“Fortunately, the core of the projects has now been awarded, and it is time for us to now focus on the contractors and the consultants to ensure that they do good work for us to get value for money, considering the investments we are putting into road construction,” Mr Agbodza said.

He assured the public that monitoring would be intensified to ensure contractors deliver quality work in line with specifications.
