A man has been arrested in Berekum in the Bono Region for allegedly attacking his brother and the brother’s wife over a dispute involving a cashew farm, an incident that later resulted in their deaths.
According to a statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Command, the suspect, Emmanuel Yeboah, allegedly ambushed the victims and attacked them with a cutlass while they were on their way to the disputed land.
The victims were rushed to a health facility for treatment, but died on January 8, 2025, while receiving medical care.
The police statement, signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Regional Public Relations Officer, said the suspect was arrested and remanded into police custody on January 3, 2025, by the Berekum Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Osei Kofi, on charges of attempted murder and causing harm.
The suspect is expected to reappear before the court on January 12, 2025, for further proceedings.
Police believe the attack was triggered by a long-standing dispute over the ownership of a cashew farm. A cutlass believed to have been used in the attack was retrieved from the bush, and investigations are ongoing.
