Residents of Plau, a community in Somanya, have been left in shock after the body of a 34-year-old woman was found at her family home under suspicious circumstances on February 3.
The deceased, identified as Ama Kwaku Oyo, was reportedly found unresponsive earlier that evening in her boyfriend’s room. Her body was later transported and left at her family residence.
A source at the Somanya District Police Command told the Ghana News Agency that officers received a distress call around 10:00 p.m. from a neighbour who reported that a dead body had been dropped at the house.
Police officers who rushed to the scene confirmed the woman was unresponsive and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary information gathered by the police indicates that Ama Kwaku Oyo had visited her boyfriend, identified as Tetteh Bi, earlier in the day.
The two reportedly prepared fufu together, although the deceased did not eat.
“She later went into the room, and when he followed, he found her lying still. We were also told she was known to drink heavily,” the police source said.
Police further disclosed that the boyfriend allegedly placed the body in a tricycle, locally known as a “pragya,” and transported it to the woman’s family home before fleeing the area. His whereabouts remain unknown.
The cause of death has not yet been established.
“The body has been deposited at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital and will be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy,” the source added.
