The Government of Ghana has issued an urgent call for restraint and diplomacy as hostilities flare across the Middle East, warning that escalating tensions could have devastating consequences for civilians and regional stability.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government expressed “serious concern” over ongoing coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, and the reported retaliatory actions by Iran targeting U.S. and Israeli assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The conflict has already led to airspace closures, disrupted flights, and heightened security alerts throughout the region.
Ghana has called on all parties involved to de-escalate tensions and return to diplomatic engagement, emphasizing the need to protect lives, safeguard economic stability, and secure lasting peace.
The Ministry has advised Ghanaian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the Middle East. Citizens residing in affected countries are urged to remain indoors where possible, comply with local authority directives, avoid large gatherings, monitor official communications, and maintain contact with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission.
An emergency preparedness plan has been activated. Ghana has begun evacuating staff from its embassy in Tehran while retaining essential personnel to assist nationals still in Iran. Diplomatic missions across the region remain on high alert to provide consular support to Ghanaians in need.
Ghana’s Foreign Ministry underscored its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad while encouraging all regional actors to prioritise diplomacy over military confrontation.
