The Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under missile attack amid rising tensions between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

In a statement on Friday, March 6, the Ghana Armed Forces said the base was hit between 17:45 and 17:52 local time. Two Ghanaian soldiers sustained critical injuries, while another officer suffered psychological trauma. The strike also destroyed the camp’s Officers’ Mess, which was completely burnt down.

“The injured personnel are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable. Arrangements are being made for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further care,” the statement added.

The military reassured Ghanaians that other troops remain safe, having taken shelter in underground bunkers amid the volatile security situation.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a formal protest at the United Nations headquarters in New York, urging all parties in the UNIFIL operational area to uphold their obligations to protect peacekeepers.
