The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called for bold reforms in Ghana’s justice system, urging stakeholders to modernise the courts, embrace digitalisation, and expand access to justice.

He made the remarks on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the launch of the Supreme Court at 150 anniversary celebrations, while speaking on behalf of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to him, the future of Ghana’s judiciary must be defined by innovation, collaboration, and a renewed commitment to serving the public effectively.

“Looking ahead, we must define the future with boldness. Let us modernise our courts, embrace digitalisation, expand access to justice, and strengthen legal education,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of stronger institutional cooperation among the three arms of government, while maintaining their constitutional independence.

“Let us build bridges of collaboration between Parliament, the Executive, and the Judiciary — each respecting the boundaries of the other, yet united in service to the people,” he added.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib further used the platform to encourage young legal professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity and responsibility in their work.

“To the next generation of lawyers and judges, carry forward the torch of justice with integrity, courage, and humility. The Supreme Court is more than an institution — it is a symbol of hope, fairness, and the enduring promise of democracy,” he stated.

He described the judiciary as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy, emphasising its role in safeguarding fairness, upholding the rule of law, and maintaining public trust.
