Sack Free Zones CEO over galamsey response to Apostle Nyamekye — Nana B to govt

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, over her comments about the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

In a strongly worded statement, Nana B described Dr. Awusi’s remarks as distasteful and an unwarranted attack on a respected religious leader. He argued that her comments should not be taken lightly and must be condemned by the public.

His reaction follows recent comments by Dr. Awusi, who criticised Apostle Nyamekye after he raised concerns about the destruction of Ghana’s water bodies due to illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

The Church leader had warned that pollution of rivers was affecting key religious practices such as water baptism and impacting livelihoods in farming and fishing communities.

However, Dr. Awusi described his remarks as political and urged him to focus on his religious duties, a position that has since sparked widespread backlash.

Nana B accused the government of using Dr. Awusi to attack voices that raise concerns about national issues, claiming the response reflects a broader attempt to silence criticism.

He also alleged that the comments directed at Apostle Nyamekye amounted to threats and taunts, which he said were unacceptable.

According to him, President John Mahama must take immediate action by revoking Dr. Awusi’s appointment if he does not support such comments.

He further called on the government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to issue an unqualified apology to Apostle Nyamekye and the leadership of The Church of Pentecost.

Nana B maintained that Ghanaians will continue to speak out on issues affecting the country, particularly concerns about illegal mining and governance, regardless of attempts to suppress dissent.

*SACK MADAM MARY EWUSI NOW FOR HER DISTASTEFUL COMMENTS & ATTACKS ON PENTECOST CHAIRMAN*

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost of Ghana, Apostle Eric Nyamekye in his ‘State of the Church’ address at the 48th General Assembly has bemoaned the ever-worsening incidence of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey in our Country and how the havoc wrought on our water bodies is impeding traditional river baptism by the Church.

In a very shocking twist, this very justifiable concern by the revered leader of the Church of Pentecost in Ghana has been met with a very distasteful attack from the President and the NDC through Madam Mary Ewusi, CEO of the Ghana FreeZones board and a close confidante of President John Mahama.

Mary Ewusi’s threats and taunts asking Apostle Nyamekye to ‘shut up or face the consequences’ cannot be treated lightly’ It is obviously not an isolated reaction but yet another clear indication of the state-sanctioned scheme by John Mahama and his henchmen to silence all of the genuine voices of reason in our Country.

Mary Ewusi’s unprovoked attacks on no mean a person than the leader of the Church of Pentecost should be condemned by every well-meaning Ghanaian.

President Mahama should urgently revoke Madam Ewusi’s appointment if indeed he is not in support of such distasteful and disrespectful comments. The NDC and President Mahama must as a matter of urgency render an unqualified apology to Apostle Eric Nyamekye and the leadership of the Church of Pentecost.

President Mahama must remember that he will never be able to gag well-meaning Ghanaians from expressing their disappointment with the many broken promises by his government and we will continue to put him on his toes for the good of the ordinary Ghanaian.
