A 35-year-old man is battling for his life after he was attacked by a suspected landguard at Awutu Oshimpo in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region at a government-backed project site.
The victim, identified as Daniel Larbi, is in critical condition at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
According to residents, the community has long struggled with poor mobile network connectivity. In response, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Agbotui Tetteh, reportedly secured investment for the construction of a telecommunications tower to improve network access in the area.
Construction workers had begun preliminary work on the site with the support of residents and local traditional authorities.
However, tensions escalated when a group of about 30 men, believed to be landguards, arrived at the scene on approximately 10 motorbikes and ordered an immediate halt to the construction.
Witnesses say residents resisted, insisting the project was a government initiative intended to benefit the entire community.
Residents report that the group launched an unprovoked attack, triggering chaos and heightening tensions.
During the incident, Daniel Larbi was reportedly stabbed, leaving him critically injured.
The attack has left the community shaken, with many residents expressing fear for their safety.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.
