Ghana has stepped up efforts to revive a national airline, with the Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, holding high-level talks with Boeing in Seattle to explore a potential partnership.
The discussions focused on supporting the rebirth of a national carrier, including possible collaboration in aircraft acquisition, technical support, aviation training, and maintenance.
Speaking during the engagement on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Ambassador Smith stressed the importance of a strong national airline to Ghana’s economic ambitions.
“We would appreciate a partnership with Boeing in securing appropriate equipment to ensure that the rebirth of a national carrier does not elude us,” he said.
He noted that re-establishing a national airline would boost trade, tourism, and investment, while strengthening Ghana’s position as a regional aviation hub.
Boeing expressed optimism about Ghana’s aviation prospects, with senior manager Rachel Peterson saying the company sees “tremendous potential” in the country’s aviation market and is open to further engagement.
The talks form part of broader efforts by Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C., to deepen economic ties with U.S. industry and attract investment into key sectors.
Ghana has long pursued plans to re-establish a national carrier following the collapse of Ghana Airways, as authorities look to improve connectivity and support economic transformation.
