The Greater Accra Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has paid over GH¢729,000 to cover membership card and dues fees for more than 10,000 branch executives in orphan constituencies across the region.
According to Mr. Ashie Moore, the initiative is aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structure by supporting branch executives in constituencies that do not currently have Members of Parliament on the NDC ticket.
He described the move as both strategic and necessary to sustain party unity and morale ahead of future political activities. The affected constituencies include Trobu, Okaikwei Central, Weija-Gbawe, Tema Central, and Anyaa-Sowutuom.
In a media interview, the Regional Chairman commended the executives for their dedication and hard work, noting that their efforts contributed significantly to the party’s strong electoral performance in the Greater Accra Region during the 2024 general elections.
He emphasized that maintaining the commitment of grassroots leadership remains critical to consolidating the party’s gains.
Mr. Ashie Moore further explained that while constituencies with NDC Members of Parliament often receive direct support from their MPs, those without such representation require deliberate intervention to ensure fairness and inclusivity within the party.
He stressed that the decision to absorb the costs of membership and dues for these executives reflects the party’s commitment to equity and internal cohesion.
“Out of the 34 constituencies, we have 29 Members of Parliament, which means five are orphan constituencies. Per the party’s new guidelines, each branch executive is required to pay GH¢20 for a membership card and GH¢24 as dues, bringing the total to GH¢44. Across the five constituencies, we have over 10,000 branch executives. As Regional Chairman, I have therefore released over GH¢729,000 to cover their membership and dues,” he explained.
He added that the gesture is expected to ease the financial burden on branch executives, motivate them to remain active, and ultimately enhance the party’s organisational effectiveness at the grassroots level.
