Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured that the 100 newly procured buses by government will soon be deployed to improve public transportation, particularly during peak hours.
He explained that the delay in putting the buses into operation is due to ongoing administrative and technical processes, including driver training, vehicle registration, inspections and servicing.
Speaking to journalists after appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, May 20, Mr. Nikpe said all the necessary procedures were being completed to ensure the buses are safely and properly integrated into the transport system.
He noted that although the buses have arrived, they must first undergo full registration and licensing, while drivers are also being trained before deployment.
“If you have a number of buses, they have to be registered, inspected, and properly serviced. Drivers also have to be trained and deployed so the buses can serve the people,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the process was nearing completion, adding that drivers are currently undergoing training and are expected to complete within days.
“We are almost at the end of rolling those buses out. The drivers are under training and should pass out either this week or early next week. Once everything is completed, the buses will be released into the system,” he added.
Mr. Nikpe assured the public that the buses would soon become operational, saying Ghanaians would begin to see them in service shortly after all processes are finalized.
