The legal team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has noted that it remains confident ahead of judgment in his illegal mining trial.

This follows a disclosure by the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, that proceedings in the case involving Wontumi and two others have been concluded, with judgment expected on July 3, 2026.

Speaking to Citi News, a member of his legal team, Andy Appiah-Kubi, said the defence is optimistic about the outcome.

He maintained that the conclusion of the case does not affect Wontumi’s political activities within the NPP, including his ambition to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

“He has very high expectations. We are also very confident that something good will happen. He is working hard to get elected. We are very hopeful that he will be able to go through the process safely,” he said.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi added that the legal team believes it has adequately responded to the prosecution’s case throughout the trial.

“Nothing has happened so far. We have been in a legal process and we are about to finish this one. As long as he is able to defend the actions against him, there won’t be any difficulty in his contest,” he added.

Judgment in the case is expected on July 3, 2026.
