Heavy rainfall in Takoradi has disrupted academic activities at the Opportunities Industrialisation Technical Institute (OITI), with examinations and other academic work brought to a halt after classrooms and parts of the campus were flooded.
Students and staff were left stranded at the main gate on the morning of Thursday, June 4, unable to access their classrooms as floodwaters rendered the school compound inaccessible.

Several students who spoke to Citi News expressed frustration over the recurring nature of the flooding and appealed for urgent government intervention, including either relocation of the school or reconstruction on higher ground.
“I have been here for two and a half years and we have been experiencing this type of flooding. Whenever it happens, our desks get destroyed as well as machines and books. It affects our academic performance,” one student said.

Another student said the situation had disrupted scheduled examinations.
“We cannot go inside, that is why we are all outside. We were supposed to write exams today but we cannot go in. It is disturbing. We urge authorities to help us. The school should be relocated,” the student lamented.
The flooding has raised concerns about infrastructure and drainage challenges affecting educational institutions in parts of the Western Region.
