Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has handed over some relief items to victims of the fire outbreak at the Accra Central Market, as part of government support efforts for affected traders.
The relief items presented include 30 cartons of cooking oil, 300 pieces of mosquito nets, two bales of used clothing, 300 blankets, and 100 mattresses, intended to support affected traders as they recover from the incident.
Following her visit to the market on Friday, June 5, she assessed the extent of damage caused by the fire and engaged with victims, calling for immediate evaluation of the building.
As part of the intervention, the Vice President also urged the NADMO committee involved in the relief process to prioritise the purchase of locally made goods in the procurement of relief items.
The fire, which occurred on the night of Tuesday, June 3, destroyed several stalls and reportedly injured a firefighter during efforts to contain the blaze.
Some of the affected traders expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and thoughtful support in the aftermath of the disaster.
”We thank you for your effort, this will go a long way for us, may God bless and protect you,” one victim expressed.
