The Government of Ghana has expressed strong support for the Black Stars ahead of their opening World Cup match against Panama in Toronto, describing the team’s participation as a symbol of the nation’s resilience, unity and determination.

In a statement signed by Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Wednesday, June 17, the Government said Ghana’s fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament transcends sport and reflects the collective hopes and aspirations of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

According to the statement, the players carry the pride of the nation and represent the dreams of citizens from every corner of the country who are united in support of the Black Stars.

The government called on Ghanaians in the diaspora, particularly those in Toronto and across North America, to turn out in large numbers and serve as the team’s “12th man” by creating a vibrant atmosphere of support.

The Government noted that measures have been put in place to ensure that all Ghanaians can follow the team’s World Cup campaign, with official television broadcast rights secured to provide nationwide coverage of the matches.

”At home, the Government has ensured that no citizen is left behind. We have successfully secured official television broadcast rights, ensuring that every tackle and every goal is beamed into homes from Axim to Bawku, and from Ho to Hamile. This is our gift to a nation that lives and breathes the beautiful game,” the statement added.

The Government further urged the players to give their best on the field and compete with pride, not only for the country but also for the many young Ghanaians who look up to them as role models.

It expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rise to the occasion and represent Ghana with distinction as they begin their World Cup journey.
