The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government has fully settled all outstanding arrears owed to the contractor working on the Tema Motorway project, clearing the way for accelerated progress on one of Ghana’s most critical transport corridors.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, the Roads Minister assured lawmakers that financial obligations to the contractor have been fully met, and there are currently no outstanding payments due under the contract.

He explained that the government has prioritised the clearance of arrears to ensure that contractors are not hindered by financial constraints, which often contribute to delays in project execution.

“On record, the Motorway contract is ongoing and as of this morning, we don’t owe the contractor any amount of money. All outstanding claims have been settled. We will endeavour to continue to encourage the contractors working on this project to hurry up.”

The Tema Motorway, which serves as a vital arterial route linking Accra to the industrial city of Tema and further extending connectivity towards neighbouring Togo, has long been considered a strategic national asset. It facilitates the movement of goods, supports port operations, and plays a key role in regional trade within the West African sub-region.

He further urged the contractor handling the Motorway project to intensify efforts on-site and accelerate the pace of work, stressing that the government expects visible progress following the settlement of all financial obligations.
