Black Stars must avoid complacency after Panama win – Stephen Amoah

The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has cautioned the Black Stars to guard against complacency following their narrow but important victory over Panama in the ongoing FIFA World Cup campaign.

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 18, Stephen Amoah stressed the importance of discipline, hard work, and spiritual commitment as the Black Stars prepare for a crucial encounter against England scheduled for Tuesday, June 23.

He emphasised that success in football, especially at the highest level of international competition, requires sustained effort from all stakeholders, including players, technical staff, management, and even supporters of the national team.

“I want to send this caution, I beg all the stakeholders, let them not be complacent. This includes the coach, the management body, the players and the entire state because the Bible says that faith without works is dead.

“Let us not be sluggish, indolent and inactive and begin to be too complacent to the extent that we don’t get to where we want to get to. I believe that if it is the will of God, with prayer and hard work, we will go far.”

His remarks come in the wake of Ghana’s 1–0 win against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, a result that boosted the team’s morale and strengthened their position in the competition.

While the victory has been widely celebrated by fans across the country, the MP believes it should not lead to any sense of overconfidence within the camp.
