15 rendered homeless after fire razes six apartments at Aboabo

About 15 people have been rendered homeless after a fire swept through six self-contained apartments in a compound house at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The fire broke out while about ten occupants were in the house. However, all of them managed to escape unhurt before the flames engulfed the apartments.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the scene with two fire tenders, but the blaze was already well-developed by the time firefighters arrived.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, said preliminary assessments indicate that the fire originated in one of the rooms before spreading rapidly to adjoining apartments.

He said investigations have commenced to determine the exact cause of the outbreak.

ACFO II Tetteh also expressed concern about the reluctance of many residents to install fire extinguishers in their homes, stressing that such equipment could help contain fires in their early stages and minimise damage before firefighters arrive.

The affected families are currently assessing their losses as investigations into the incident continue.
