The Ghana Police Service has arrested several suspected drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of narcotic substances in intelligence-led operations conducted across the Kumasi Metropolis.
The coordinated operations, carried out by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, targeted identified hotspots believed to be centres for the distribution and sale of illicit drugs.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 25, the Police said a major operation at Asawase led to the arrest of a 61-year-old man, Kwame Afriyie, also known as “Con Papa” and “American Man,” described as a notorious drug peddler.
A search of his residence and provision shop uncovered 33 and 48 parcels respectively of suspected compressed cannabis.

At Asafo, a follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of Kofi Acheampong, also known as “Mokobiley.” A search of his room uncovered 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, as well as quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.
At Krofrom, 22-year-old National Service personnel, Michael Owusu Agyeman, was also arrested with 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
Further coordinated operations at Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom, and Asafo BB led to the arrest of several other suspects, including Adamu Ibrahim (44), Stanley Boahene (24), Favour Emmanuel (23), Abubakar Sadick (28), Adwoa Serwaa Boamah (36), Paul Quagraine (40), and Nana Kwasi Natson Yaaba (31).

The Police indicated that exhibits retrieved from the various operations include compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine, and other controlled substances.
All exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the illicit drug network.
The suspects have since been arraigned before court and remanded into Police custody, to reappear on subsequent dates.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking, peddling, and abuse, and urged the public to support operations by providing credible intelligence on drug-related activities.
The Service also commended the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their professionalism in disrupting criminal networks across the region.
