Accra floods: AMA directs VIP buses off Kwame Nkrumah Flyover for safety, traffic flow

VIP Bus drivers have been directed to relocate their vehicles from the Kwame Nkrumah Flyover area to the ATTC yard for public safety reasons.

The directive was issued by the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Michael Kpakpo Allotey, as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and enhance safety around the busy interchange.

According to the directive, the relocation is intended to reduce congestion and eliminate potential safety risks associated with the parking and operation of commercial buses at the flyover.

The move also follows a viral video showing an STC bus being swept away by fast-moving floodwaters amid widespread flooding across parts of the region, raising renewed concerns about safety in flood-prone and high-risk areas.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly says the measure forms part of broader efforts to decongest major transport routes and improve urban mobility within the capital.

Authorities are expected to monitor compliance in the coming days to ensure full implementation of the directive.
