The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has warned that contractors who fail to provide detailed technical work schedules and demonstrate progress on road projects risk having deductions made from their contract payments.
According to him, contractors are required to submit comprehensive technical work programmes outlining the various stages of project execution, timelines and expected targets, adding that government will only make payments for works that have been completed and duly certified by the Ministry.
Speaking at Atimpoku on Wednesday, July 8, during an inspection of ongoing road projects as part of his nationwide road inspection tour of the Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions, the Minister said the measure is aimed at ensuring contractors adhere to approved schedules, improve accountability and guarantee that public funds are paid only for verified work done.
“If we keep coming to your site and you are lagging because of presentation, we can actually deduct some money from you because it means that we have given you money to do something and you didn’t do it,” he said.
Governs Agbodza further indicated that contractors whose performance remains below expectations will face deductions, while those who improve their delivery and meet project requirements will have their work assessed accordingly.
“So those whose presentation has been less than expected, and if sometime you can show that you are doing the presentation well, we will deduct it from your money,” he added.
