Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has highlighted ongoing reforms under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes across the country.

He made the remarks during a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace, where the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund briefed the King on the progress of the initiative and efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare for Ghanaians.

During the meeting, the delegation updated Otumfuo on the achievements of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund since it became operational and outlined its vision of improving access to specialised healthcare for people living with chronic non-communicable diseases.

The team also highlighted broader reforms being implemented to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide, describing the Trust Fund as a key component of the government’s efforts to improve health outcomes.

The delegation outlined the Fund’s mandate, key milestones achieved and ongoing interventions designed to reduce the financial burden on patients requiring specialised treatment.

They reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied life-saving specialised healthcare because of financial constraints.

The discussions also underscored the role of traditional authorities in promoting national development and raising awareness of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

According to the delegation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s influence across communities and institutions would be instrumental in encouraging eligible Ghanaians to access the specialised healthcare support available through the initiative.

The visit forms part of the Trust Fund’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with traditional leaders and other key institutions to increase public awareness and expand access to specialised healthcare services.

The delegation included the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene; Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku; Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoryea; Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana, Dr. Peter Kwame Yeboah; Board Member of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong Gyamfi; and members of the Trust Fund’s senior management.
