The first factory under government’s much-touted One District One Factory initiative has been inaugurated in Tamale.

The motorcycle assembling plant located at Lamashegu is a Public – Private- Partnership between the government of Ghana and a Chinese private company known as Motorking Company Limited.

[contextly_sidebar id=”cnuqngAJ77fEkqh2aT7UatDu9SJwumVQ”]President Nana Akufo-Addo inaugurated the company mandated to assemble tricycles of different kinds.

These will include farm tricycles, rural ambulance tricycles and mobile library tricycles.

The President urged citizens of the Northern Region to patronize the company’s products.

He was overwhelmed by the presence of the Gulkpenaa and other chiefs at the event and interpreted that to mean the company will succeed.

Trades and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanteng said the factory was established to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

According to him, students of the various technical tertiary institutions in the region will take advantage of the factory to improve their knowledge.

Mr. Kyeremanteng said the company will benefit from import tax waivers for five years.

He invited other multinationals to embrace government’s Public-Private Partnership drive and explore the region’s investment potentials.

The company’s Managing Director, Dr. Gau Yong promised to deepen management’s relationship with the chiefs and people of the area.

She said the company will increase its labour force to significantly reduce the unemployment ratio recorded in the region.

Dr. Yong stated that “The company is to support the community and promote quality standards in healthcare services, agricultural productivity and education among others through cost-effective transportation for all.”

“We have so far covered Tamale, Techiman and Accra with warehouse and assembling centres.”

Motorcycles are the commonest means of transport in the three regions of the north for which reason Chinese business moguls have invaded the local markets.

Haojin, Savvy and Motorking are the most patronized motorcycles.
