Police in the Northern region are investigating what triggered last Friday’s gunshots in Yendi which claimed one life.

The deceased, Alhassan Gaddafi, was hit during sporadic shooting, hours after a curfew was imposed on the area.

According to the Police, the two suspects who were picked up, Alhassan Ahmed 40, and Iddi Abubakar 17, will be charged if found complicit in the act.

“Investigators are still talking to them and by tomorrow we will be able to gather everything together so far as investigations are concerned and they will be charged before court on the appropriate charges. Yendi is very calm. Police, military patrols are ongoing.

“Intelligence are also ongoing. The traditional people are also going about their usual traditional rites so for now there is nothing untoward.”

The deceased, only identified as Gaddafi, was a member of the Bolin Lana side and a staff of the Audit service in Yendi.

The body was sent to the Yendi Government Hospital morgue.

Rituals were about to commence at the Gbewaa palace in line with the customs and traditions for the enskinment of the newly selected Yaa-Naa when gunfire was first heard.

The performance of the rituals continued at 12:45 am and came to a close at about 5:30 am.

The Kampakoya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani on Friday night packed out from the new Gbewaa palace after the performance of his father, the late overlord, Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II’s funeral, which ended on Friday.

His packing out is to make way for the new Yaa Naa to move in after going through the rituals successfully.
