GJA Awards: Citi FM adjudged best English radio station in Ghana

Citi 97.3 FM has received a strong acknowledgement as the best English-speaking Radio Station in Ghana, at the 24th Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Awards ceremony held on Saturday.

The station which has been serving Ghanaians with quality programming in news, current affairs, sports, entertainment, advocacy among others has over the years taken commanding heights in the radio listenership share and has consistently topped English-speaking radio stations in Ghana in audience ratings.

The Adabraka-based radio station has topped the GeoPoll audience ratings three consecutive times emerging as the number one English-speaking radio station in Ghana in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

According to GeoPoll, Citi FM also maintained its position as the second most listened to radio station in the Greater Accra Region in the year 2018.

Data from GeoPoll also placed Citi FM as the fifth most listened to radio station in Ghana [all categories] in 2018, with an average daily audience of 474,000.

At the Awards ceremony to climax its 70th-anniversary celebrations, GJA also adjudged the station’s flagship programme, the Citi Breakfast Show as the best morning show in Ghana (English category).

The GJA Awards add up to the numerous awards swept by Citi FM over the years due to its unparalleled programming with the recent one being two awards it received at the maiden edition of the Nobel International Business School (NiBS) Ghana Innovation Awards dubbed the Ultimate Industry Awards.

Omni Media Limited, owners of Citi FM were on Friday crowned winners of the media organization of the year at the NiBS awards ceremony held on Friday, November 22, 2019.

The host of the Citi Breakfast Show and Point of View [on Citi TV], Bernard Koku Avle was also honoured with the Innovative Personality of the year prize at NiBS awards.

Bernard Avle had earlier been crowned the GJA Journalist of the year for 2017.

Citi FM has over the years won a series of prestigious awards since 2004 including BBC Africa Emerging Media House of the Year 2006, the CIMG Media House of the Year 2014, CIMG Digital Media Organization of the Year 2016 and 2017.

The Citi Breakfast Show, the flagship morning show, has also won several awards including being adjudged the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana Radio Programme of the Year in 2016 and 2017.

The 24th GJA awards was to honour outstanding journalists and media shows which had excelled in the field of journalism.

At the end of the GJA awards held on Saturday, Doreen Hammond of Graphic Communications Group Limited emerged the overall best Journalist for the year 2018.
