The Coalition for Allied Health Nurses has denied receiving financial clearance for employment from the finance ministry.
The Health Ministry recently announced it has granted financial clearance for over 8,000 trainee nurses are untrue.
According to President for the group, Bright Bell the so-called financial clearance was instead to effect payment for arrears owed national service personnel who completed school in August 2016.
There were reports that the unemployed nurses have been cleared financially enabling them to start their permanent employment in various public health facilities.
[contextly_sidebar id=”rg2twTS30apcAwJZpw81tOzVzqDHnLMx”]A letter signed by Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei-Asare, stated that they had received financial clearance from the Finance Ministry for the over 8,000 unemployed nurses.
But speaking on Eyewitness News, Bright Bell said his members had received no such thing.
He also said they are seeking permanent posting.
“The nurses that graduated in 2016 and are about to start their rotation or service, that is the financial clearance to allow their allowance to be paid as they are going to do a one-year mandatory service. It is not a financial clearance to permanently engage the allied health professionals and the nurses who are languishing at home who are seeking for permanent posting,” he said.
The leadership of the Ghana Nurse – Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) who also corroborated the position of the Allied Health Nurses said in a statement that the financial clearance in question “does not affect the nurses who are due for permanent employment.”
“The leadership wanted to inform our members and the general public that, the enigma of unemployed nurses and midwives still holds. Therefore the information circulating that unemployed nurses have been cleared financially is absolutely erroneous, hence must be disregarded,” the statement added.
Over 200 Trainee Nurses picket again over NABCO
Over 200 members of the Ghana Nurse -Midwife Trainees Association last week picketed at the premises of the Health Ministry in protest of their enrolment unto the employment programme, Nation Builders Corp.
That was the second time they demonstrated against the programme which they strongly oppose.
The students will stay at the premises of the Health Ministry until they are cleared and posted instead of enroling unto the Nation Builders Corp.
