Authorities at the Oguaa Traditional Council have warned organisations and individuals who are violating the ban on noise making within Cape Coast and its environs to desist from doing so or face their wrath.
[contextly_sidebar id=”OSqNGUrp9tMTQTi6TK33TjvixaUWrC1p”]The two-week ban that precedes this year’s Fetu Afahye celebrated by the people of Cape Coast, spans from the 7th to 28th of August, but the traditional authorities are concerned that some residents of Cape Coast are violating it.
The Chairman of the 2018 Fetu Afahye Planning Committee, Perry Mensah, in an earlier interview with Citi News said, “There should not be noise making at all within Oguaaman which implies drumming and dancing, loud music and anything that is noise should not be done”.
However, just some few days into the ban, the traditional authorities say they have had reports of violations of the order at drinking bars, restaurants, wedding ceremonies, churches and other places.
According to Perry Mensah, despite arrests by the task-force of the planning committee, some residents of Cape Coast continue to violate the order.
On the punishment for those who violate the ban, the Planning Committee chairman explained that, organisations that are caught will pay a fine of GHC 2,500, a sheep and two bottles of schnapps, while individuals will pay a fine of GHC 1,000, a sheep and two bottles of schnapps.
He noted that, “The ban will be lifted a week to the festival, and thereafter we can do all the noise we want to do, so we are asking the general public to go by the rule that has been laid down by the traditional council”.
The traditional council is also warning organisations that are soliciting sponsorship from institutions “under the pretense that they have the rights to organize activities” during the festival to cease from such actions immediately to avoid facing the full rigours of the law.
