New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North constituency, Fuseini Issah, has said that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be disadvantaged if former president John Mahama is elected to lead the party in the 2020 presidential elections.

“Given the history of our dispensation, the cycle of 8 years and all that, I think that it will be a disadvantage to the NDC. If I were, although I will never be a Member of the NDC, I wouldn’t have supported that bid, but I think he is the one they think should lead.”
It emerged on Tuesday that some 94 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament, out of the 106, had endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in the 2020 elections.
According to the leader of the 94 MPs, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandapuye, who spoke on the sidelines of an event to rally support behind Sammy Gyamfi as NDC National Communications Officer, John Mahama was the only candidate who can lead the party to victory in the next polls in 2020.
A member of the NDC and MP for Yunyoo constituency, Joseph Bipoba Naabu has however claimed publicly that he was deceived into signing the endorsement of John Mahama.
Meanwhile, Nii Amasah Namoale, a supporter of Joshua Alabi, another aspiring flagbearer of the NDC has challenged Nii Lantey Vandepuye to make public the list of MPs who have supposedly endorsed John Mahama.
Fuseini Issah also backed the call.
“Bring the list, let’s see the 94 people. I will support the call by Namoale, that Nii Lante Vandepuye should give us the list of the 94 MPs [who endorsed Mahama].”
About 5 members of the NDC have so far declared their intention to contest as flagbearers of the party ahead of the 2020 polls.
More candidates to challenge Mahama
They include Dr. Ekow Spio Garbah, a former Trades and Industry Minister under the John Mahama government; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi and Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin.
Former National Health Insurance Authority boss, Sylvester Mensah has also declared his intention to contest.
