A Mason, Mawuli Jonny Asimah, who was put before an Accra Circuit Court has been convicted on his own plea for robbing one Salina Zakari.

Mawuli was said to have conspired with one Isaac Zanyoh Otuteys, and robbed the victim of her Infinix mobile phone worth GHȼ450.00, a bag containing a perfume worth GHȼ30.00, three condoms and an amount of GHȼ100.00.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy, while Mawuli pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery. Isaac however pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

The court, presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, convicted Mawuli on his own plea, but deferred sentencing to January 30, adding that the conspiracy charge would be determined at the end of the trial.

He adjourned the case to January 30, ordering the prosecution to file their witness statement before the said date.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector William Boateng, told the court that the complainant Selina Zakaria, is a street girl residing at Coco beach area, Nungua, while Mawuli and Isaac are unemployed and both live at Sankara, Nungua.

He said on January 18, at about 8:00pm, Mawuli got the complainant’s mobile number on an online app called MEET4U, and called her for sex. They agreed to meet at about 1:00am on January 19 at the Teshie Nungua Estates, which they did, with Mawuli paying the taxi fare of the complainant.

He said they then walked a distance where Mawuli had already positioned one Bashiru, Bright, Kojo, all at large, and Isaac, wielding cutlass and knives. Mawuli at this stage ordered the complainant to be silent whilst advancing on her.

The prosecution said the complainant sensing danger, began going back but was held by one of them from behind who also firmly covered her mouth with his hand.

He said they robbed her of the aforementioned items after which they pulled her into the darkness but she managed to raise an alarm.

Police Chief Inspector Boateng said a witness in the case heard the complainant’s cry from his window and shouted at them upon which the robbers took to their heels.

He told the court that at about 8:30am the same day, the complainant spotted Mawuli at the Estate Zongo and informed the Police where he was arrested.

He said Mawuli led the Police to arrest Isaac from whom complainant’s bag was retrieved, whilst the infinix mobile phone was retrieved from Mawuli.
