The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye has apologised for hitting the Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, in the head during a radio discussion in Accra.

Mr. Nana Boakye issued a statement expressing regret for his actions which occurred during a heated discussion in the studio of Asempa FM, which turned physical when he hit Sammy Gyamfi in the head.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zxJE9PbFl03BNymcdzPYdo1HuxUtATng”]He, however, described Mr. Gyamfi’s conduct as provocative.

“Regardless of the repulsive, provocative conduct by the NDC’s National Communications Director on the show which included unacceptable verbal attacks on the President and myself, I am, upon sober reflection, apologising to listeners of Asempa FM and Ghanaians for the manner in which I responded.”

“I will also encourage my junior brother, Sammy Gyamfi, to be decorous and respectful in his public utterances during such engagements and to, at all times, respect the high office of the President,” he added.

Mr. Nana Boakye’s apology comes after the youth wing of the NDC gave the police a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest him.

“We demand the immediate arrest of the violent thug, Henry Nana Boakye within 24 hours. If by Monday, the arrest has not been affected, we will consider this an abdication of the responsibility of the police administration. We will have no other option than to mobilize our members to demand justice for our comrade.”

The scuffle in Asempa FM’s studios was seen on the live stream of the political show, Ekosii sen.

It is unclear what triggered the attack but Mr. Gyamfi is seen in the video to be very agitated and gets out of his seat as the studio cuts out the sound from the verbal exchanges.

The discussion centred around the violent incident during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday.

APOLOGY TO ASEMPA FM LISTENERS AND GHANAIANS

I refer to the events which took place yesterday on Asempa FM’s Political Talk Show, ‘Ekosisen’.

Regardless of the repulsive, provocative conduct by the NDC’s National Communications Director on the show which included unacceptable verbal attacks on the President and myself, I am, upon sober reflection, apologising to listeners of Asempa FM and Ghanaians for the manner in which I responded.

I wish to assure all that, I remain committed to decent, issue-based discourse on our airwaves and that this unfortunate incident will not be repeated.

I will also encourage my junior brother, Sammy Gyamfi, to be decorous and respectful in his public utterances during such engagements and to, at all times, respect the high office of the President.

Thank you.

Signed

Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B)
National Youth Organizer, New Patriotic Party
