The traditional leaders in the North East Region have appealed to government to fix their deplorable roads for them to boost economic activities in the region.

According to them, the poor state of their roads makes transportation of goods and services difficult.

The situation according to them gets worse during the raining season, as some the roads become inaccessible.

The chiefs made the appeal during president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tour of the region.

The Overlord of the Mamprugu traditional area, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga commended the president for the ongoing developmental works in the region.

“I thank the president for the road construction ongoing in Walewale, Gambaga and Nalerigu town roads. It is my conviction that similar works will be done in Bunkprugu, Chereponi, Yunyoo and Yagaba township very soon,” he said.

Nayiri also appealed for the construction of some major trunk roads in the area including, Nalerigu-Bunkpurugu- Chereponi road, Fumbisi-Yagba-Kubori, and Wulugu-Kpasenkpe-Kunkwa roads among others.

On education, Naa Sheriga appealed for works to be completed on a stalled a multi-purpose assembly hall complex, three-story block and several other projects in the Gambaga College of Education.

Responding to the appeals made by Nayiri, President Akufo-Addo said the Ministry of Education has been able to raise GHc1.5 billion for GETFund projects.

“The Ministry of Education has been able, through a very ingenious means to raise a lot of money for infrastructural development in the ministry. We have been able to raise 1.5 billion cedis for GETFund securitization to improve in the infrastructure of our schools,” the president noted.

Touching on the roads, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta assured the chief and people that the Nalerigu-Nakpanduri road and Binde Bunkpurugu roads will be included in the second phase of Sinohydro road infrastructural projects.

As part of the tour, the president also cut sod for the Bitumen surfacing of about 7-kilometer Bunkpurugu town roads at the cost of 14.7 million cedis.

Work is expected to be completed within 18 calendar months.

He also commissioned a 120-bed girls dormitory for Nakpanduri Senior High School and a community Day Senior High School in Sakogu.
