Some seven members of the New Patriotic Party suspended for vandalising the party’s office in the Sagnarigu constituency have been banned from voting in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries on Saturday.

The Deputy National Communications Director for NPP, Haruna Mohammed made this known in a Citi News interview.

Last week, some aggrieved supporters of the NPP in the went on rampage over claims that executives have deprived them of job opportunities.

The actions led to the destruction of property at the party constituency office.

Seven persons were subsequently suspended and a committee was set to investigate the matter.

Speaking to Citi News, Haruna Mohammed noted that the seven persons will not be involved in any party activity until the investigations are concluded.

“Some seven persons were identified and suspended and these persons will not be voting tomorrow because of their suspension. We are also taking them through disciplinary measures. When such things happen, you need to take a measure and institute an investigation into the matter.“

“The investigation report will be put before the constituency executive committee and they will then present it to the regional executive committee for them to assess and see whether they are actually at fault or not. If they are not, they will be reinstated back into their positions,” he said.

Touching on the upcoming parliamentary elections, Mr. Mohammed said all is set for the elections in nine constituencies in the Northern Region.

He said, “The regional executive committee had a meeting on Sunday with all the aspirants and the constituency executives to remind them of what the party stands for. We all spoke about how the party is going to go about with these primaries and the number of issues that needs to be solved, after that meeting, some particular persons were assigned to the various constituencies to supervise as the Electoral Commission conducts the elections.”

“On the matters of security, we have also informed the regional security command as to the conduct of the elections and security has been provided and EC has given us a report that all is set for them to rule out the elections. All the centers in the various constituencies have been made available for the elections and I believe that the elections will be successful,” he continued.

All is set for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary primaries elections on Saturday.

The party is expected to elect its parliamentary candidates in about 100 constituencies with no sitting Member of Parliament.

Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy General Secretary of the party Nana Obiri Boahene indicated that measures have been put in place to ensure successful elections.

“So far I am reliably informed that more than 100 orphan constituencies are ready. No individual can go there to misbehave. That is why I am saying we are ready. Some constituencies have more than 100, 200 and even more than 400 delegates, depending on the size of the constituency,” he said.
