The Ministry of Roads and Highways says plans have been made for the payment of compensation to affected households along the N8 as phase two of the trunk road’s rehabilitation continues.

Property owners are expected to relocate to pave way for the road construction.

However, the Ministry says structures that have to be pulled down along the Twifo Praso- Assin-Fosu road will not be touched until issues surrounding compensation packages have been addressed.

Sector Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta confirmed to Citi News that the Finance Ministry has made funds available for the payment of the compensation to all persons affected by the construction works.

“We had approval from the land evaluation board for compensation to be paid to all the people affected by the project. As we speak today, following the approval, the Minister of Finance has released the compensation package in full. It is with my Ministry, so, those responsible will from next week start payment to all affected persons. We do not want to do things arbitrarily, so I directed that no property be touched until compensation is paid.”

The N8, which connects Cape Coast and Kumasi is one of the major trunk roads in Ghana for transporting export commodities.

The phase 2 of the N8 trunk road project comprises the road network from Yamoransa to Assin Praso, in the Central Region, and Bekwai-Anhwia Nkwanta-Kumasi roads, in the Ashanti Region.

According to the sector minister, work is ongoing in earnest.

“The N8 which is Twifo Praso-Assin Fosu is also in the second phase. The first phase links the Bekwai road and that has already taken off. The contractors are there as we speak and there is a lot of work ongoing there. There is no hindrance at all. Ghana is always proactive, and the president wants to see this action implemented.”
