Former Finance Minister, Professor Kwesi Botchwey, is scheduled to speak at an Independence Day Lecture slated for March 7, 2022, in Accra.
Organised by the OneGhana Movement in partnership with the University of Ghana Department of Economics and School of Social Sciences, the event will be held at the Cedi Conference Centre at the university’s Department of Economics.
The lecture is designed to provide a constructive platform for engaging and shaping solutions for the socio-economic challenges and prospects of Ghana.
The maiden lecture is themed: “On the State of the Nation’s Economy and Politics: 65 years after independence – The Path to Sustainable Development and Democratic Consolidation.”
There will be a panel and audience discussion to review and reflect on the subject and issues raised during the lecture.
The event is billed to start at 10am on the day and will be live on Citi FM and Citi TV.
About Prof. Kwesi Botchwey
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey is a Ghanaian former government official and Professor of Practice in Development Economics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University.
Dr. Botchwey was Minister for Finance and Economic Planning from 1982 to 1995 having been appointed by Jerry Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress to assist in stabilising Ghana’s economy, making him the longest-serving Finance Minister.
Kwesi Botchwey was born on 13 September 1944 in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana.
He received his secondary school education at the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School in Ghana.
Botchwey holds an LL.B. from the University of Ghana, an LL.M from Yale Law School, and a doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School.
He taught at the University of Zambia, the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and the University of Ghana.
