Wontumi ‘being disingenuous’ about Ken Agyapong’s remarks – William Kusi

William Kusi, the Ashanti Regional Spokesperson for the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign team, has accused Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of being disingenuous about his boss’s remarks about him and the party.

This response comes after Chairman Wontumi threatened to have Mr. Agyapong arrested if he “threatens” his life again and advised him to focus on his campaign for the upcoming November 4 NPP primaries rather than attacking him.

Mr. Agyapong, during his “Showdown Walk” in Kumasi over the weekend, accused Chairman Wontumi and the Vice President of collapsing the NPP. He also dared the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP and stated that he would give him a “showdown.”

Hence, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mr. Kusi said, “It is unfortunate for Chairman Wontumi to say that we should concentrate on our campaign. We are concentrating on our campaign, and when we campaign, we discuss issues, not people. He says I am the only servant of the party, so vote for me. Because I bought almost 700 pickups for the party, I bought t-shirts, and I paid to get the NPP to get a majority when there was a split in Parliament. If you put the same issues before the candidate that Wontumi supports, he will score zero, zero, zero.”

“…So when it comes to the leadership of a party, it is about servanthood, and he says I have served. So he has concentrated on his campaign, and you can see that he is now the most popular person. So Chairman Wontumi seems not to know what is going on; if he does, then he is being disingenuous because he is aware that Kennedy speaks to his campaign.”

Earlier, Mr. Agyapong’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region had dismissed Chairman Wontumi’s threat to have the flagbearer aspirant arrested.

According to the team, Chairman Wontumi had no basis for making such a threat of legal action against the Assin Central MP.

They dared him to arrest Mr. Agyapong, insisting that available information indicated that Chairman Wontumi had engaged in acts that warranted his arrest.
