UrbanPlug Africa, a leading renewable energy company, has unveiled innovative portable power stations designed for electric vehicles (EVs) that can also provide power to homes.

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, the company’s Marketing Manager, Godfred Owusu, shared plans to expand the network of charging stations, further promoting the adoption of EVs in Ghana.

UrbanPlug Africa offers a wide range of renewable energy solutions, including solar and wind power, providing installations, sales, and repairs for both commercial and residential clients.

The company is also set to showcase fully electric vehicles from China at the upcoming “This is Ghana Exhibition,” organized by Channel One TV/Citi FM, where they will highlight the economic and environmental benefits of EVs.

Owusu emphasized the long-term investment value of electric vehicles, noting their lower operating costs and superior performance.

UrbanPlug Africa’s portable power stations, akin to solar generators, provide a convenient and quiet solution for EV charging, even while on the move.

The company is encouraging local businesses to participate in the “This is Ghana Exhibition” on August 31 and September 1, 2024, at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly forecourt.

“We are looking at the Chinese fully electronic vehicles and at the exhibition, we are going to bring some of the cars for people to have a look at, fully EV. It’s very economical, it is cheaper than petrol and it is very fast. We have vehicles including SUV EV.”

“Looking at the electric Vehicle, it’s a long-term investment. When you buy a petrol vehicle, you’ll buy fuel all the time till the car is no more, but in an electric vehicle, you just charge it and charging it doesn’t really cost. A trip from Accra to Kumasi and back can cost 100 cedis. Every car has its battery capacity and the least is 100 cedis for a full charge.”

“We are going to build the charging stations so anyone who buys the vehicle and wants us to install the charging units in their house, we can do it for them. We have portable power stations, more like a solar generator and it doesn’t make noise, even on a trip, you can put the power stations in your car.”

The two-day event will showcase over 300 exhibitors and host seminars aimed at promoting made-in-Ghana products and services.

A seminar focused on “Digital Sales and Marketing to Increase Revenue” will also be held on August 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Other seminars planned for the two-day event include, “Managing Your Finances/Accounts,” which will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, August 31, and “Packaging Your Product for the Export Market,” from 11 am to 1 pm on September 1.

The seminar attracts a fee of GHC200. Place a call to 0205973973 to register.

“This is Ghana Exhibition” is powered by Channel One TV and Citi FM and is proudly sponsored by MTN, Ghana Gas, Ghana Pay, Global Shea Alliance, Peeva, Eximbank Ghana, Petroleum Commission, Built Financial Technologies, KOA Natural and Aramex Logistics.
