The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana is set to begin the second phase of their training for “Electrical Engineers Training for African Countries” which is slated for 7th October to 22nd November 2024 from the ECG Training Centre in Tema.
The programme is aimed at equipping individuals and by extension, their workforce to improve on the provision of reliable and sustainable power supply to produce goods and services, to develop transport infrastructure, factories, and communication and to support the provision of social services such as education, health, aid in maintaining law and order as well as overall security stability.
The launch of the second phase of this training programme was held on 7th October 2024 where Mr. Oda Ryotaro, a Senior Representative of the JICA Ghana Office mentioned, as part of his address, that “JICA strives to realize a society in which all people have access to stabl3, affordable, clean energy and resources where they can lead productive lives.”
He added that JICA intends to provide grant aid for the construction of a new substation in Tamale, slated to start in 2025, with similar support granted to similar projects in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Tanzania.
In an effort to share knowledge and experience, the first phase of this training program was held last year, the success of which has led to this second phase with an expanded list of participating countries.
The aim of the training program, as shared by Mr. Ryotaro “is to improve the skills of technicians in the maintenance of electrical equipment and engineers in distribution planning, design, system protection and control.
The Director of the ECG Training School, Ing. Godfred Mensah appreciated JICA for their support for the training program and admonished trainees to take the opportunity seriously while building social networks with each other.
