Entrepreneur and CEO of Mckingtorch Africa, Makafui Awuku, has highlighted his company’s efforts in transforming plastic waste into useful products such as flower pots, polythene bags, sandals, and Christmas trees.

Speaking in an interview with Frema Adunyame and Nana Tuffuor Boateng on Channel One TV’s Upside Down, Awuku shared how Mckingtorch Africa has been consistently promoting sustainability through creative recycling initiatives.

He added that two of their plastic bottle Christmas trees were featured in the installation located at the Ridge Roundabout, and the project even attracted international attention.

“We have been doing the Christmas tree for the last 7 years. The Ridge Roundabout, the lighting they do every year, that particular year [2023/2024], we had the opportunity to add our bottle trees to the installations.

“So, we had two of the trees in that installation. I think BBC even did a documentary on it,” he noted.

Mckingtorch Africa’s work continues to inspire conversations around environmental conservation and innovative waste management.

Mckingtorch Africa is an environmental sustainability social enterprise in Ghana whose work focuses on influencing environment and climate related policies, Plastic Waste Recycling and Upcycling, Environmental Sustainability Advocacy, Recycled Waste Public Space Installations, Waste Recovery Services, Institutional and Academic Research Partnerships on Circular Economy, Environmental Sustainability Consultancy, Advocacy, Environment and Climate Startup Incubations.
