Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Beyuo, has drawn a sharp distinction between President John Dramani Mahama and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing them as fundamentally different in leadership style, character, and accountability.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue, Prof. Beyuo praised Mahama’s track record, asserting that the former president consistently demonstrated integrity and decisive leadership—even when confronted with scandals.
“The difference between Mahama and Bawumia is like night and day,” he said. “Mahama was branded with mud, but when you are made of gold and people scratch you, your true colour only comes out.”
Prof. Beyuo emphasized that Mahama did not shy away from controversy and often took swift action in response to even the perception of wrongdoing.
“When Mahama even smelled the occasion of a scandal, he dealt with it, and those with wishful thinking were punished. But we never saw that level of accountability in the previous government.”
He also dismissed claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is apprehensive about facing Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
“Who will fear a candidate you have beaten with over 1 million votes?” he asked.
Prof. Beyuo noted that the NDC’s focus is not on who the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chooses as its flagbearer but on presenting a compelling message and connecting meaningfully with the Ghanaian electorate in the lead-up to the 2028 elections.
