Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on illegal water connections following the discovery of two illegal setups at Power Land near Ritz Junction in Accra.
The enforcement operation, undertaken with the support of GWL Board Chairman Biligio Adama, was launched after a tip-off.
In one of the cases, a customer was found with three separate connections, and only one was metered. The other two were used to supply water illegally to tanker operators.
Although the illegal lines have been disconnected, Engineer Dr. Hadisu Alhassan, Regional Production Manager for the Accra Tema Metropolitan Area, said those involved will face legal consequences.
“We are out to crack the whip. We are out to involve the general public in this, as well as our people. Due process will be followed, and we will involve the security agencies. While the security agency does its part, we will also do our bit and ensure that we get the right benefit. We are not just going to recover what we have been reaped off, but also punish the people involved,” he said.
GWL pledged to intensify surveillance and public cooperation to clamp down on illegalities that undermine service delivery and revenue.
