The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has lauded the staff of the Police Hospital in Accra for their exceptional service to the public during the nationwide strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
During a working visit to the facility on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the IGP, accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), praised the hospital’s leadership and frontline workers for managing the sudden surge in patient numbers during the industrial action.
According to the Medical Director of the hospital, COP Dr. Otu Nyarko, the facility recorded a more than 300 percent increase in patient visits over the past week as members of the public turned to police medical facilities for care. Similar reports were received from the Police Hospital in Kumasi and other police clinics nationwide.
Dr. Nyarko noted that the unexpected pressure prompted emergency measures, including recalling all doctors on annual and study leave to ensure continuous care. “Despite the strain, no patient was turned away,” he assured.
Commending the team for their commitment, the IGP thanked the staff for their dedication and urged them to continue upholding the values of service and care, especially in times of national need.
He also highlighted the timely commissioning of the Police Hospital in Kumasi as a critical boost to the service’s medical response capacity, and reaffirmed the Police Administration’s commitment to resourcing all police medical facilities to enhance healthcare delivery.
