Stakeholders in the energy sector are calling on the government to release an interim load-shedding timetable to help consumers prepare for a scheduled nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition announced that the outage is necessary to accommodate maintenance works by gas supplier ENI. The disruption will result from a temporary shutdown of gas valves to facilitate rehabilitation efforts aimed at increasing gas output.
Speaking to Citi Business News, Energy Analyst and Executive Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy, Benjamin Nsiah, emphasized the importance of advance planning.
“This particular shortage of power supply on Sunday is due to maintenance activities by ENI. I believe the ministry must implement specific interventions, particularly a clear plan, to help end users prepare accordingly,” he said.
“I don’t think the entire country will experience the outage simultaneously. Some areas may lose power, while others—especially those that provide critical and essential services—should remain powered. That’s why we need a load management schedule.”
“There should be a timetable that clearly indicates which areas will have electricity and which areas will not on Sunday,” Nsiah added.
