As part of its longstanding commitment to fostering sustainable communities, Standard Chartered continues to drive initiatives that promote environmental responsibility and awareness among young people.
In line with this vision, the Bank recently organised an impactful environmental sustainability session with students from the Nii Amugi Cluster of Schools in Accra.
The session, held under the Bank’s employee volunteering initiative, was aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment and equipping students with practical steps to reduce their plastic footprint.
Staff volunteers from the Bank engaged students in an interactive session that highlighted the dangers of improper waste disposal and the lasting environmental damage caused by plastic pollution.
This initiative was designed not only to educate but to inspire behavioural change among young people, encouraging them to take ownership of their environment.
The students were introduced to everyday habits they could adopt, such as reusing plastic items, proper waste segregation, and participating in community clean-ups, to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
To make the programme even more impactful, Standard Chartered supported the school with sanitation materials, waste management tools, and up-cycling resources.
These donations formed the foundation for an up-cycling club that will be established within the school, offering students a practical, hands-on opportunity to turn waste materials into useful items while promoting the benefits of recycling.
This club will also serve as a peer-led platform to deepen environmental awareness among students and within their wider communities.
Through this initiative, the Bank reinforces its belief that lasting change begins with equipping the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and platforms to lead.
By investing in educational initiatives that promote sustainability, Standard Chartered continues to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s national agenda on environmental conservation and responsible waste management.
This exercise also underscored the importance of partnerships between corporate institutions and communities in addressing pressing social and environmental issues.
